My Store UA100 - American IPA - 10L All Grain Kit
This recipe is named after the flight with United Airlines between Chicago (my hometown) and Sydney. I created it attempting to model one of my favourite brews at the time, Strata Amarillo IPA from Pirate Life Brewing. I was enjoying a good brew outside at the time, white I was manning the BBQ, and had a moment to thank the Universe that I was in such a good position. The beer itself is pretty simple, and the only real complexity to it is the depth of Strata, and the support flavours of Amarillo. Other than that, is almost a SMaSH. Give it a go and really discover what these hops are all about. I made the recipe early on in my brewing days, and it actually turned out quite well every time. My Store Talus' Talon - 10L All Grain Kit
When Talus first came to the shop, I was absolutely blown away. Daughter of Sabro, Talus has some characteristics of its mother, but being wild pollinated, it took on many other characteristics. Most find Sabro pretty single use in Aroma, and very powerful with coconut. Talus on the palette goes from Pink Grapefruit, to Coconut, to Piney, to Peppery. It is also a dual-purpose hop and can be used for bittering and aroma. We have used Talus as a dry hopped Saison and were absolutely blown away. This recipe is purposefully built for Talus, and without further words, I’ll let the recipe speak for itself! My Store The Empire Strikes Back Dark Ale - 10L All Grain Kit
Inspired by the Star Wars original trilogy, the Pop Culture Brews podcast (2019-2021) crew set out on an intergalactic mission to create beer recipes inspired by episodes IV, V, and VI. For the second episode in the trilogy—The Empire Strikes Back (1980)—Pop Culture Brews cohost Paul Crowther (aka The Mad Brewer) created a beer recipe that captures the film’s darker, more sinister tone. Adding Carafa III, a dark-roasted barley, makes the recipe darker (~45 SRM) and instills some mild roasted notes in the aftertaste. While this beer is impenetrably dark compared to its Episode IV predecessor, The Empire Strikes Back Dark Ale is still bursting full of Citra hop flavour, reflecting the lighter moments of Episode V. My Store Storm Surge Baltic Porter - 10L All Grain Kit
This Baltic Porter is complex but well worth the wait. "There are two keys to brewing this beer. The first is the malt bill. It's fairly complex, and for that reason some patience is required. In my experience, the more complex the grain bill, the more conditioning the beer needs for the flavours to meld. The other key is fermentation. The strain of yeast is largely unimportant and can be either lager or ale as long as esters are restrained. I used an ale yeast that ferments cleanly at lower temperatures just because it was available. The recipe is also fairly dry for the style, which is a personal preference, so just look for yeast that ferments cleanly, attenuates well, and can handle the higher ABV." My Store Smoke on the Water Grodziskie - 10L All Grain Kit
Goodziskie is a traditional polish beer brewed with 100% Oat Smoked Malt that was revived by the Polish Homebrewers Association in 2011.The beer is traditionally light in the alcohol hops and smoke at 3-3.5ABV. It is described as a mid-strength smokey type hybrid pilsner brewed with a German Ale or Kolsch type yeast. The smoke favour is subtle unlike the German smoked beers from Bamburg and will be a great beer to drink as the nights get a bit cooler. This recipe is perfect for beginners and advanced brewers alike. For beginners, it gives a great flavour profile of the Simcoe hop, and also how a yeast strain, such as M36, can supplement the flavours you are trying to reach! Inspired by the Star Wars original trilogy, the Pop Culture Brews podcast (2019-2021) crew set out on an intergalactic mission to create beer recipes inspired by episodes IV, V, and VI. For the final episode in the trilogy—Return of the Jedi (1983)—Pop Culture Brews cohost Andrew Sanders crafted a pale ale recipe reminiscent of Endor, the forest moon that is home to the furry and ferocious Ewoks. Andrew wanted Return of the Jedi Pale Ale to have more piney and earthy hop notes to reflect the forest setting of the final battle between the Rebels and the evil Empire. As a result, Return of the Jedi Pale Ale uses the same grist as A New Hope Pale Ale, but changes the dry hop additions to Simcoe and Chinook for a more West Coast-style hop. The German "Helles"(meaning Pale) is similar in flavour to adjunct lagers but has more malt flavour and a touch more sweetness. A full bodied lager that can be perceived as bready. The Hop + Grain Hi SEAS Hazy IPA - 10L All Grain Kit
S.E.A.S. Strata, El Dorado, Azacca, and Sabro. This combination of hops has been one of my favourites in my never-ending series of Hazy IPA experiments. When we first brewed it, it poured out of the keg with the uncanny aroma of cannabis and tropical fruit. The flavour can be best described Fruit Loops breakfast cereal with just a hint of coconut from the Sabro. The yeast plays a crucial role in achieving this profile. Pitching warm at 23 C, and even under pitching (0.35 g/L dry yeast, yes that’s only 7 grams) can boost ester production and yeast-derived fruit flavours. My inspiration for this beer was born out of using the Norwegian yeast Kveik (pronounced Ka-wi-k) and the lovey fruit flavours and esters it produces. The hop is EXTREMELY complex and the first of its kind, really exhibiting cherry flavours in the beer. The main flavours are cherry, raspberry, peach, and banana. Oktoberfest originated in Munich to bid a final farewell to Fest Season. Every town in Bavaria has a fest between March and October, and the largest town in Bavaria holds the final and largest of the year.A Märzen is the same as an Oktoberfest beer. The origin is that the Biermeisters made the beer in March and conditioned it until their respectable fest. This beer dramatically varies town to town, but in essence, should be slightly high ABV (5.5% or above), have some to dark colouring to it, and be extremely sessionable.
