My Store Black/Roasted Malt per kg
Black malt, also called patent malt or black patent malt, is barley malt that has been kilned to the point of carbonising, around 200C. Black malt provides the colour and some of the flavour in black porter, contributing an acrid, ashy undertone to the taste. In small quantities, black malt can also be used to darken beer to a desired colour, sometimes as a substitute for caramel colour. Due to its high kilning temperature, it contains no enzymes. Our house black malt is Joe White Roasted Malt.

If you've been to Boston, you might have tried a Sam Adams beer. This brewski is inspired by their Boston Lager. The simple grain bill provides a decent malt backbone to accompany the mellow noble hop profile. The mosaic dry hop adds a bit of tropical, berry flavor to compliment the earthy, herbal notes of the German hops. This recipe was originally brewed for my Grandpa's 90th birthday, ironically he's from New York City. He always said "Hey! Multi purpose brewing equipment cleaner and a mild no-rinse sanitiser. Comes in a re-sealable sturdy mylar bag. Removes organic matter (caked on yeast or hop trub) by soaking. Use 30g per 10L water (1tsp per L) and allow to soak for at least 10 minutes or leave overnight for heavy soiling. Optionally follow up with a phosphoric sanitiser rinse.
